Day 4 final captains log update. Sat 16 Sept. stats:60 miles, 5 hours riding and 3090 calories burnt. Today we finally did it, arriving in Paris this afternoon, a 131 cycle convoy to cheering Parisians and car horns ablasting, passing the Arc de Triomphe, finishing at the Eiffel Tower in blazing sunshine. To say it was a tough few days is a massive understatement but with your help and generosity, we have raised a large amount of money that will be gratefully received by guide dogs and go towards training a dog for a deserving blind person thus improving their quality of life, thanks to you all. My body aches, I have sores in places I can't mention but am delighted to have finished. It only leaves me to say "au revoir and crem de la menthe". Bonjour.          Ps.... I will do one more update when back in the UK, with a photo. Adios.

Day 3 update captains log 15th Sept. Abbeville to Beauvais. Stats: 72 miles, 7.5 hours riding and 3830 calories burnt. Today was a hard day, we left Abbeville a little later than usual but even after a nutritious breakfast it took almost 12 miles before my legs felt ok, the whole day was tough. Once again the scenery was great and the locals put on a lovely lunch. Today though was 'national puncture day' some riders repaired their own (me.... my 2nd one) but many riders sought support team help. Just to give you all an idea, 39 punctures were fixed before lunch, 61 by the end of the day. Those hills haunted me again and my legs are now very tired, just one more day to go. This has been the mother of all challenges but we are almost there. Today's weather was good with a touch of rain. Today in France was also national squirrel suicide day as I saw many blatted en route. The tour is very excited about riding into Paris together tomorrow, should be emotional, I can't wait to see the Eiffel Tower, Jacque Cousteau and Renee and the madonna with the big boobies. So until my final update I hope you all stay safe. Au Contrare, Bon appitite and a quarter of Bon bons.

Day 2 update captains log 14th Sept. Calais to Abbeville. Stats: 80 miles, 7 hours riding and 4194 calories burnt. We left Calais early and headed south, it was sunny but rained for the final 10 miles. Its been a hard days ride (sounds like a beetles song) with some mega hills to get up. I am a little tired but I just say to myself "eet wheel bee orkay" which for the uninitiated means 'it'll be ok' in French. The countryside today was stunning with many friendly locals shouting encouragement. I had a nice lunch en route of pasta and le boeff, yummy. This is certainly a tough challenge but I want to once again thank you all for your kind donations, rest assured I am earning every penny of it for the guide dogs. So I will bid you farewell until tomorrow, au revoir, mangetout et petis pois.

Day 1 update captains log 13th Sept. London to Calais via Dover.  stats: 107 miles (7 of which was the ferry to Calais hotel). 7.5 hours cycling, 5025 calories burnt. The day started with a gopping breakfast and a briefing on the day. Was very glad to leave the lodge behind.  So.... who put all the hills in Kent? That's what i need to know. They were a killer but at least we had a tail wind. The weather was good until we reached Dover then it rained lots. The ferry was late running and the crossing rough, it was my first day at sea since leaving the navy. Saw some lovely countryside today and some mega houses, not to mention the Oast houses a feature of Kent. Overall it's been a good day, I have made some good mates and we all worked well together on route, it was like the Tour de France. Tomorrow it's day 2 Calais to abbeville. Rain is forecast again. After today's beast of a day my legs feel fine and I have escaped a baboons backside, so my many hours of training has so far paid off. it's late now and time for bed. Catch you all tomorrow for captains log day 2. Bonjour and "Chateau neuf du Pape"!!!!

Day 0 update

Good evening everyone, well I have eventually arrived at Crystal Palace and it's blowing a hooley and raining hard, hope it's better in the morning. Alarm is set for 5am, breakfast then a brief at 06:15 before we set off. I'm staying in a hostel that quite frankly they should be paying me to stay, just a place to get my head down ( yes.... all of it ). I will post my day 1 update (captains log) tomorrow hopefully from Calais . Thank you all once again for your support. Sleep well all. Bonjour. Mark.
