Refugee Support Europe Greece to FYR Macedonia Trek 2018
29th April - 5th May 2018
Join us as we Walk the Refugee Route from Greece to Skopje through the Mountains of FYR Macedonia to raise awareness that many refugees in Europe still face hardship and to raise vital funds for the work of Refugee Support Europe.
Day 1: Thessaloniki
Today we meet as a group in Thessaloniki and enjoy a welcome dinner followed by a briefing about the challenge ahead. Tonight we stay at a hotel in Thessaloniki.
Day 2: Idomeni
After breakfast this morning we transfer from Thessaloniki to Idomeni, the site of one of the largest unofficial camps in Greece and symbolic of the crisis when the borders were closed.
Overnight hotel in Kilkis. Approx. 4-5 hours trekking.
Day 3: Crossing the border
This morning we'll enjoy breakfast at our accommodation before starting our trek following the undulating hills towards the Macedonian border. We'll have a picnic lunch en-route before jumping onto the bus to cross the border.
Overnight hotel in Star Dojran. Approx 5-7 hours trekking
Day 4: Dojran Lake
Straddled across Macedonia and Greece, Dojran Lake is 7.1km at its widest point with banks that are lined with fishing boats and stilted fishermen's huts. Today we'll follow the banks of the lake North out of the town of Star Dojran. After a picnic lunch we meet our bus that will transfer us to our accommodation in the border town of Gevgelija, the first town in Macedonia on the refugee route.

Day 5: Across the Hill
We'll enjoy a hearty breakfast this morning to prepare us for our most challenging day trekking. From Gevgelija we transfer to the town of Krivolak where our trek to Dragoevo begins. Our route will take us along forest tracks through the hills into the Municipality of Stip. Upon arrival into Dragoevo we'll transfer to our hotel in Stip for a good night's rest.
Approx 6-7 hours trekking
Day 6: Mladost Lake to Katlanovo
This morning we transfer out of Stip to join the old road from Mladost Lake to Katlanovo and follow a route which was used by refugees. We'll meet our transport for our journey into the Macedonian capital city, Skopje, and our final hotel. Tonight we'll have a dinner to toast our achievements and reflect on our experiences.

Day 7: Depart Skopje
Today we wave goodbye to our new friends.

At this time of year you can expect day temperatures of around 20°C and this will drop overnight. We will be quite exposed to the elements at points throughout the trekking route.
Overland transport as per itinerary, water, accommodation, all meals during trekking days, local guides, Skyline tour leader and UK Doctor.

Passport & Visas:
A valid ten-year passport is essential for travel in Greece and FYR Macedonia and must be valid for at least 6 months after entry. No visa is required for visits of less than 3 months.
You should contact your GP or travel clinic for the latest travel health advice.
You'll enjoy hearty meals throughout the challenge to keep you fuelled. Most dietary requirements can be catered for, please advise us at point of booking.
We'll be staying in a mixture of hotels and guesthouse which will be basic but comfortable. Rooms will be allocated on a twin basis sharing with someone of the same gender and similar age.
